If you’re reading this, you’ve already made a very important first step in setting and reaching new health goals. You’ve realized that there is technology out there that makes it much easier for you to track how your diet and fitness routines impact you, and that there’s no reason to tackle this challenge alone when you don’t have to.
For many, this is actually the hardest step. Once you’ve found a service that you like, it’s going to be much easier to commit to a routine and begin seeing results. Right now, however, you’re at an impasse -- which service is worth your time?
It’s an important question, and you’ve probably heard about services like NutriSense and January AI. But, we have good news -- both of these brands are going to put you in a better position to keep tabs on yourself. However, while similar, these services aren’t exactly the same.
So, while we obviously believe in our own brand, we’re going to be as fair as possible and break down exactly what you would be getting from either service. Let’s take a look.
This is just a quick glance at the differences between these two services. While similar, there is a contrast in what you would be getting and how much you would be paying for it.
Let’s start by talking about what both services do. NutriSense and January AI both provide users a platform to log their dietary data, and both provide in-app feedback. As we said above, this is already better than going at it alone. However, there are a few items that give NutriSense an edge over the competition.
The key focus for us is blood glucose levels. What we think gives NutriSense the advantage, however, is the suite of calculations and trends that pop up automatically whenever you add a new meal item to the tracker. There is much more data associated with an individual food source and it’s all seamlessly integrated into our app – after all, knowledge is power, and forewarned is forearmed. We think the best traveling companion for your health and wellness journey is a trained and certified dietician helping you make sense of these figures alongside the app.
Both apps bring the user up to speed in more or less the same way. Both programs’ first steps involve inputting personal data to give the software information to work with. After all, everyone is different, and so is everyone’s wellness goals. Where the apps take it from there is where you start to see more prominent differences.
First and foremost, NutriSense provides its subscribers with access to a dietitian -- a real professional who can provide advice and feedback in real time. By contrast, January AI users rely on app-generated data for feedback. To be clear, this is better than no data at all. Some may even be satisfied with a system like this. However, those who prefer to have a credible voice to go back and forth with have a clear winner in NutriSense.
January AI has a useful feature called the January Score, which is a composite figure derived from blood glucose levels, heart rate trends, and meals. Frustratingly, the calculation of this score is not visible to the user, so for our testers, it was a less than ideal experience. Our app gives you everything upfront, so you can make the best decisions possible about your health.
Another distinction that jumps out is the amount of plans available. As stated, January AI has a single flat plan for its subscribers. NutriSense has three, with the 12-month plan offering the biggest savings over time. A free month of dietitian support is included in all three plans.
Once you have our range of data at your fingertips, you can make a customized plan with your personal expert rather than relying on a one size fits all algorithm – for motivation and consistency, we believe the human approach is the best one.
There is nothing major to complain about when it comes to January AI’s user interface. Both the website and the app are easy to navigate through, and there is a very small learning curve once you get started.
That said, NutriSense also makes things easy for first-time users. Many have only just begun to become as health-conscious as they are, and the user interface is built to respect that.
A healthy lifestyle is a long journey, and we all have to start somewhere.
The NutriSense app does more than just track your glucose values. Blood sugar is obviously an important thing to keep track of, but NutriSense also keeps track of ketones and macros.
Ketones are the byproducts of fatty acids breaking down in your body. It’s essentially the measure of the amount of fuel you have. Macros, or macronutrients, are the materials your body breaks down for energy. They include protein, carbohydrates, and fats.
Overall, the NutriSense app just provides you with more information for your diet and overall wellness. The program includes advanced analytics allowing you to track your glucose values over a 7-day, 14-day, and 30-day period. You do not get the same attention to detail from the January AI app.
I am a huge fan of the NutriSense CGM to monitor my blood glucose levels daily. I use it as a proactive tool to keep me healthy; I analyze how my body responds in real-time to specific foods, different workouts, stress, and the quality of my sleep. I also use it professionally with my patients/clients to educate them to proactively monitor their blood glucose level and to help customize their nutrition, increase the quality of their sleep, help them understand the relationship with health/blood glucose levels and mindfulness, and to adjust their workouts to maximum health based on the readings for that day. That's why I recommend NutriSense for the value it provides, giving us easy access to real time data that we could incorporate to be healthy.
I hope that one day soon, the days of practicing sick care are over. Preventative Medicine is the act of recognizing red flags early on and fixing them before they become symptomatic. That’s what Nutrisense has done for me.”
“NutriSense has been a super practical, easy to use and understand program. I still can’t get over the support that is included in the time of using the CGM. I loved learning from the educational articles and it was powerful having a coach “looking over my shoulder”, asking me insightful questions and expanding on the available information. Also, I found it helpful having my coach personalizing my data and framing it within my lifestyle. I can already imagine the power of having the support of a coach when needing to make any lifestyle changes: just the fact that he/she can access the data through the app and track and even pro-actively communicate concerns, things you do well, motivate, ... really really cool! Well done NutriSense!!!”
So, you’ve poured through the data and finally came to a decision. You’ve considered what your personal goals are, and understand the benefits that a service like this can provide for you. Great! Now, where do you go from here?
Of course, we encourage you to do your own homework. After all, it’s your body we’re talking about -- and your investment to make. Go ahead and take a look around the NutriSense website, where you can learn more about what you could get from the service. We also have an extensive blog where we go deeper into the science behind what we do, which we think you’ll find helpful.
